Description

1988 Toyota MR2 Supercharged Bought it with the intention to restore it and make it a daily. But just don’t have the time to do so. The oil pan leaks,is a fantastic and fun car to drive. No AC but I have the compressor and parts to change that. I have tons of parts that I was going to install (as you can see in the pics) to bring it back to its former glory. Our Take:
  • A Blast from the Past: The 1988 Toyota MR2 Supercharged is a gem from the tail end of the '80s when cars had character in spades. This model, particularly with its supercharged engine, was a part of the first-generation MR2 lineup, known for its fun, go-kart-like drive. It's a mid-engine marvel, combining Toyota's reliability with a thrilling drive experience.
  • Rare Supercharged Model: The supercharged version (AW11) wasn't as common as its naturally aspirated sibling. This version packed around 145 horsepower, which might not sound like much today, but in a car that weighs as little as 2,500 pounds, it feels sprightly. Enthusiasts often hunt for these rarer supercharged models for their punchy performance and tunability.
  • Classic '80s Styling: The MR2's sharp angles and pop-up headlights scream '80s retro cool, reminiscent of the era's obsession with futuristic designs. It's a design that many car fans hold dear, capturing the spirit of a time when car design was more adventurous. Those pop-up headlights—setting it apart from the subdued minimalism of current car designs—add to its charm.
  • Restoration Opportunity: While the ad mentions some typical older car issues, this MR2 provides a great canvas for a restoration project. The availability of parts, like an AC compressor and dashboard, suggests the previous owner’s commitment to restoration. However, the need for rust repair serves as a reminder of the challenges in preserving a vehicle from this era—it's all part of the classic car adventure!
