Description

Putting out the idea of selling my AW11 Toyota MR2, as I don't drive it often and want to buy a house this year or pay off my student loans, I really don'tneed 2 cars. It is a 1989, 2 owner, manual, rust free car with only 110k miles. I have done a lot to this car in my ownership and loved every second, including what is in the last 2 pictures, and more that I'm sure I forgot Everything works great overall, car runs and drives fantastic. Rust free, and I can verify condition of the metal before...

Our Take:
  • 1989 marked the end of the first generation AW11 Toyota MR2: The MR2, often dubbed "Mister Two," debuted as a mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive vehicle that was a bit of a pioneer for affordable sports cars. Its agile handling and distinctive, wedge-shaped design made it popular among enthusiasts who enjoyed the thrill without the hefty price tag. It's no wonder this car has a special place in the hearts of many, especially since this was the last year Toyota made the AW11 variant.
  • The manual transmission is a big plus: In an era where automatics are often chosen for convenience, a manual transmission car reminds us of the pure connection between driver and machine. The AW11's 5-speed gearbox is a joy for those who love to engage every gear themselves, making every drive a more tactile experience.
  • Independent throttle bodies and an aftermarket ECU add a personal touch: Such modifications suggest that this MR2 isn’t your typical factory model, but rather a machine brought to life by someone who knew their way around the garage. Performance upgrades like these enhance responsiveness and power delivery, albeit making the car a bit more demanding to tune correctly—think of it as the culinary equivalent of a spicy dish.
  • Rust-free condition is the cherry on top: Rust is like the kryptonite of classic cars, especially for those from the '80s era, but this MR2 claims to be free from it. That's akin to finding a vintage vinyl with zero scratches—quite rare and definitely enticing. With a documented repaint and plenty of stock parts included, it presents an excellent opportunity for both purists and tinkerers to appreciate.
