Description

I am selling my 1991 JDM Turbo MR2 project. I bought this car about a year ago and I do not have the time to put in the the work this car needs. As you can see in the pictures the engine is currently out, I have every part needed to get this car running and on the road (Including ECU wiring harness etc.) apart from a radiator and a battery, the engine has had all gaskets and timing belt replaced. I have a bunch of extra parts for this car like break pads, rotors, injectors, and a AEM fuel pres...

Our Take:
  • Rarity and Collectibility: The 1991 Toyota MR2, particularly the JDM Turbo version, is quite the treasure trove for enthusiasts. This model was part of the second generation (SW20), often lauded for its "poor man's Ferrari" label due to its mid-engine layout and crisp handling. The turbo variants are especially sought after since they combine lightweight agility with a powerful punch under the hood.
  • Engine Configuration and Performance: The 1991 MR2 Turbo is powered by the legendary 3S-GTE engine—a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. This engine is a gem for those who appreciate a blend of reliability and performance. In stock form, it churned out around 200 horsepower, which might not sound like much today, but back in the early '90s, it was quite the contender.
  • Condition and Potential: This particular listing mentions that the engine is out but comes with essential parts, save for a radiator and battery. The fact that all gaskets and the timing belt have been replaced is a promising start for a project car. With the addition of aftermarket parts like the AEM fuel pump, it’s clear that this car is poised for some serious upgrades, a detail that should tickle the fancy of any performance-minded buyer.
  • Cultural and Historical Significance: Mid-engined cars are a rarity, especially from Japanese automakers, which makes the MR2 something of an icon. In the '90s, it became a darling not only on the streets but also in the tuner scene, thanks to its modifiable nature and balanced dynamics. Plus, driving an MR2 today links you to an era when Toyota wasn't afraid to take bold risks with sports cars.
