Description

1986 944 Turbo This is a very sorted 944. I have a 2inch binder with about 18K worth of receipts dating back to 2014. Any major items needing addressing on any 944 have been done (water pumps, belt, pulleys, etc.) -Full engine rebuild in 2016 -Porsche Classic Radio (Apple CarPlay, Waze) -Sitting on discontinued BBS wheels (worth about $7500 today) -Momo Steering wheel I've owed this car since 2018 and maintained it with the intention of keeping it forever, but unfortunately the time has come ...

Our Take:
  • Turbocharged Triumph: The 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo, also known as the 951, marked Porsche's venture into a turbocharged inline-four powerplant. It's a blend of performance and handling that drew enthusiasts away from the traditional rear-engined models. With its roots as a sports car that offered a more balanced and versatile driving experience, this turbo variant could rocket from 0 to 60 mph in just about six seconds—a feat that was pretty impressive in the mid-80s.
  • Collector's Delight: This particular 944 Turbo is sitting on a set of discontinued BBS wheels, which immediately elevate its status among collectors and enthusiasts. These wheels not only enhance the car's aesthetics but also its value; they're like jewelry for the automotive world. Plus, the presence of a Porsche Classic Radio with modern amenities like Apple CarPlay and Waze makes for a seamless blend of vintage charm and contemporary tech.
  • History in a Binder: A two-inch binder filled with $18K worth of receipts is more than just paperwork—it's a testament to the car's well-documented and meticulous maintenance history. Having undergone a full engine rebuild in 2016 and all the typical 944 gremlins addressed (like the water pump and timing components), it speaks to the kind of care that's rare to find. It's like getting handed the personal diary of a rock star, where every high note and hiccup has been lovingly detailed.
  • Cloud Nine Cruising: With past custodianship involving four-hour jaunts and full-day rallies, this 944 Turbo has proven its mettle. That it's touted as a "sorted" car with no issues during long drives means it can still deliver the kind of driver engagement and reliability that Porsche engineers intended. It’s like getting behind the wheel of a time machine that knows how to handle a road trip as well as it did back in the day.
