Description

Due to recent life changes the time has come to sell my beloved MR2. It is a 1987 hardtop with ~91k miles, silver exterior and blue interior, manual windows and door locks (light weight!). It has a clean CT title. This particular car was originally owned by a family friend until it was purchased by my family in 2002. Over the years I have done quite a bit of work to it including: Tokico Illumina adjustable dampers Eibach Pro-Kit springs Prothane polyurethane bushings Earles stainless steel br...

Our Take:
  • A Classic Mid-Engine Marvel: The 1987 Toyota MR2, often hailed as the 'Poor Man's Ferrari', embodies the quintessential mid-engine sports car experience of the 80s. It's part of the first generation, known for its nimble handling and lightweight design. This particular model, a hardtop with manual windows and door locks, keeps things simple and light—perfect for those who appreciate a purist driving experience.
  • A Significant List of Mods and Parts: This MR2 is far from stock. With upgrades like Tokico Illumina adjustable dampers and Eibach Pro-Kit springs, it promises a more engaging driving experience than its factory siblings. The sale includes a treasure trove of parts, such as a coveted 4A-GZE long block and a SpeedSource turbo manifold, adding layers of potential for customization and performance enhancements that enthusiasts will drool over.
  • Past and Present: With a history stretching back to a family friend, and then cherished by the current owner's family since 2002, the car carries a personal touch often missing in more transactional sales. The original engine's unfortunate demise led to a change, but the inclusion of another 4A-GE engine and extra transmission stands out as a boon for anyone looking to restore or revamp.
  • Restoration and Potential: Though it needs some TLC before hitting the road regularly, the MR2 presents an exciting restoration project. Its storage in a semi-climate-controlled garage means it's been cared for despite its downtime—giving it a promising start for a fresh chapter in the hands of an enthusiast ready to bring it back to its former glory.
