Our Take:
  • Engine and Performance Upgrade: The Fiat 600 was originally equipped with a 633 cc engine, so this little gem sports an upgrade with an 850 engine, likely enhancing both performance and drivability. This kind of swap is quite common among enthusiasts looking to give these classic subcompacts a bit more zip without losing the charm. It's akin to a vintage Vespa getting a new lease on life—retaining its iconic look but with more pep in its step.
  • Historical Significance: The Fiat 600, introduced in 1955, was a game-changer in post-war Europe, representing Italian ingenuity and style. It was a pioneer of compact car design and is often remembered alongside its more famous sibling, the Fiat 500. The 1959 model falls within the early production years, which adds a bit of historical weight to this offering.
  • Condition and Provenance: This particular 600 being a "clean, dry original California car" means it's likely seen a gentle climate, helping it dodge the rust that often plagues its European counterparts. The flawless interior and excellent body and paint condition make it a rare find indeed, especially considering the car’s age. Envisage a well-knitted sweater that's somehow stayed pristine in a sea of moth-eaten others—now that's a treat!
  • Nostalgia and Collector Appeal: While the 600 might sometimes be overshadowed by larger, more powerful classic cars, its quirky charm and cultural significance make it a darling among collectors. It's like finding that first edition comic book tucked away in your attic—unassuming yet invaluable. With everything working and complete with original accessories, it's a dream for any Fiat aficionado or classic car collector.
