Key Details:
* Model: 1986 BMW 535i E28
* Mileage: ~179,000 miles
* Engine: M30B34 3.4-liter inline-six (legendary for its reliability and longevity)
* Transmission: 5-speed manual
* Condition: Good mechanical condition, typical cosmetic wear for its age
* Storage: Always garaged
Recent Work Completed:
* New Holy Grails Blade Fuse box upgrade
* New radiator, thermostat, and water pump
* New valve cover gasket
* New power steering and alternator belts
* Full re-alignment and suspension inspection (all in good shape)
* Fluids change and basic service
Additional Features:
* Aftermarket exhaust: A bit throaty for my taste, but not too loud—it turns heads in a good way.
* Functional door locks
* Most interior electrical components work. (Minus a couple passenger seat controls, side mirror controls, and the little dash computer which needs a new battery retrofit).
Work Still Needed:
* Lower, and upper timing cover and oil pan gaskets (small oil leak from lower timing cover)
* Power steering pump (small leak, possibly rebuildable) still turns and handles with ease, just has a very small leak and the faintest of wines when nearing full lock.
* Shifter bushing replacement (shifts in and out just fine, but there’s some slop)
* AC/blower fan motor replacement (easy and affordable DIY fix)
Cosmetic Condition:
* Rear window lower driver-side corner has visible rust and paint bubbling (see photos, no leaks)
* Surface rust in typical E28 locations
* Chips and dings on the hood, a couple of small dents on the roof (see photos)
* Budget Euro bumper tuck job by a previous owner (tucked US-spec bumpers)
* Overall, looks good from 10 feet away but has the usual imperfections of a commuter car of this age it was a daily for a couple past owners.
* Appears to have all of its original glass or at least BMW stamped replacements.
Extras:
* Small box of extra parts (switches, sensors, hoses, bulbs, etc.)
* Complete set of 4 original bottle cap wheels (need reconditioning and new tires, will include if you want them)
This BMW is powered by the legendary M30B34 3.4-liter inline-six, renowned for its durability and longevity. With proper maintenance, these engines can easily surpass 200,000 miles, making this car a reliable and enjoyable classic. I bought this car more recently, with the intent of enjoying it on occasional errands and at car shows, but a recent job change now requires a more practical commuter vehicle. With space for only two cars and my wife claiming one of those spaces, I’ve made the tough decision to find a new home for this classic. This E28 has been a blast to drive, and I’ll miss cruising the streets of Seattle with ‘80s hits playing, but it’s time for someone with the passion, enthusiasm, and space to take her to the next level. Or, simply enjoy her as she is and keep the smiles going for many miles to come.
