Description

I have a really nice 62 Landcruise, mostly original, still has the original 6cyl inline, 3 spd transmission, and factory winch. The truck is in really good condition but not perfect it runs and drives, all lights work, new seats. Really must see in person to appreciate, looks better in person. FJ40 ...

Our Take:
  • The FJ40 Origin Story: The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40, especially from 1963, represents a pivotal moment in Toyota's history. It was part of the first generation of Land Cruisers that put Toyota on the global map for rugged, reliable vehicles. Known for their durability, these early models helped Toyota break into markets across the world due to their off-road prowess—think of them as the original adventure mobiles.
  • Engine and Transmission: The model mentioned in the listing should have the F engine, a 3.9L inline-six, aligning with Toyota's reputation for reliable powertrains. Though the description mentions an automatic transmission, which is quite unusual for the early FJ40s, as most were manual, it might be an owner modification. The original 3-speed manual is cherished among purists for its simplicity and robustness.
  • Rare Factory Feature: A genuine factory winch is a rare find on these models. Back in the day, this wasn't a standard feature and often had to be added later by owners. It speaks to the vehicle's utility-focused past, directly linking it to its off-road legacy—like having a badge of capability displayed on its grille.
  • Cultural Impact: The FJ40's design is iconic, with its boxy, rugged lines having inspired countless off-road enthusiasts. It's a design that harks back to a time when vehicles were purpose-built with little compromise, kind of like the Swiss Army knife of vehicles. Seeing one in such good condition, albeit not perfect, offers a rare glimpse into a bygone era of motoring.
