Description

Up for sale is a very rare Merkur XR4Ti. It has a turbo charged 4cylinder engine with an automatic. The car runs and drives, but not road worthy and needs TLC. It is being sold as is and for parts. I dont have the title and its not registered. It will be sold with a bill of sale only, its not in the DMV system anymore as its been sitting for about 15 years. Our Take:
  • Merkur's Quirky Charm: The Merkur XR4Ti is an intriguing piece of automotive history, a European import by Ford that aimed to bring something different to the American market in the '80s. With its turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, this car was marketed as a high-performance vehicle, yet it often flew under the radar of mainstream buyers. It's a bit like finding an old vinyl record—something unique that not everyone appreciated at the time.
  • Rare Unicorn Status: Only available in the U.S. from 1985 to 1989, the XR4Ti is a rare sight today, especially given that Merkur as a brand didn't survive long. This rarity can make it a gem for collectors who appreciate cars that defy convention—a classic "if you know, you know" scenario.
  • European DNA with American Influence: Despite its obscurity, the XR4Ti shares its bones with the European Ford Sierra, a well-regarded car overseas. However, Ford gave it an American twist by shoehorning in the turbocharged engine, making it a fascinating blend of transatlantic automotive cultures. It's like sipping an espresso in a Route 66 diner, if you will.
  • Potential for Passion Projects: While this one "needs TLC," as they say, and lacks a title, it presents an opportunity for a project car if you're up for a challenge. Restoring it could be a labor of love, much like bringing an old classic film back to its former glory. Plus, those Mustang rims add a touch of muscle car flair to the European silhouette—an interesting juxtaposition to say the least.
