Our Take:
  • Rarity of the GSL-SE Trim: The 1985 Mazda RX-7 GSL-SE is a bit of a hidden gem—a true enthusiast's choice. Under the hood, it sports the 13B rotary engine, which offered increased power over other trims. This particular model marked the end of the first generation (FB), making it a cool piece of Mazda's rotary legacy.
  • Engine and Performance: The 13B engine was quite advanced for its time, with fuel injection and a higher displacement than the earlier 12A engines found in other RX-7s. It might not break land speed records today, but it's a joy to drive, offering a uniquely spirited experience thanks to its whirring rotary heart.
  • Manual Transmission and Driving Experience: Equipped with a manual transmission, this RX-7 ensures an engaging driving experience. In the '80s, Mazda was all about that lightweight, nimble feel, and even after all these years, the RX-7 still dances through corners with grace.
  • Project Car Potential: While it's in need of some TLC—particularly in the differential department—this car is ideal for someone looking to work hands-on. The seller mentions an off-road Racing Beat exhaust, hinting at potential performance upgrades. It's a blank canvas for rotary enthusiasts who love turning wrenches and bringing a classic back to life.
