Our Take:
  • Historical Significance: The 1973 Porsche 914 has an interesting backstory as it was initially a joint venture between Porsche and Volkswagen. It's often considered a bit of an underdog compared to its more illustrious Porsche brethren, perhaps due to its unconventional styling and shared Volkswagen DNA. Yet, for many enthusiasts, this gives it an extra layer of charm and appeal.
  • Engine Details: This particular 914 boasts a 2.0-liter engine, which was the largest offered in the series and delivered a bit more pep than its smaller siblings. The 914's mid-engine layout—quite the hallmark for a car of its time—offered impressive handling dynamics, making it a joy on winding roads.
  • Unique Modifications: The presence of a Honda distributor and ECU is an unusual twist, blending Japanese reliability with German engineering. While purists might cringe at such modifications, others could see it as a practical enhancement that adds reliability, particularly in terms of ignition and engine management.
  • Condition and Usage: It's notable that the seller mentions no rust, especially in the notorious "hell hole"—an area under the battery known for rust issues in 914s. The fact that it's driven 80,000 miles suggests it's been enjoyed as intended; cars are like fine wines, sometimes they need a bit of mileage to show their true character.
