Description

I am selling my father's 914 he has owned it for 26 years and is the second owner. The car has been gone through recently and lots of old fuel hoses and vacuum lines have been replaced. The car is still on the original fuel injection and runs great. I know the floor boards have been replaced under his ownership. The odometer recently stopped moving last year at 42000, he doesn't even drive it 500 miles a year due to work. The cars paint work isn't the best would need to be redone to be perfect. ...

Our Take:
  • The 1973 Porsche 914 was part of a unique collaboration between Porsche and Volkswagen, known for its mid-engine layout—a rarity at the time, especially in this price range. As a result, it offered exceptional handling and a driving experience that was incredibly engaging for enthusiasts. Imagine, back in the day, feeling that precise connection to the road that only a mid-engine car can deliver!
  • This particular 914 is still running on its original fuel injection system, a testament to its design durability. Considering the period, when many cars were transitioning from carburetors, this feature was quite advanced and often a highlight in discussions amongst car buffs. Original systems like these can be a double-edged sword—great for authenticity, but they might demand a bit of TLC from time to time.
  • With the odometer stuck at 42,000 miles, it's noteworthy that these miles might not fully capture its life on the road. However, given the seller’s note about it not being driven much recently, it could be closer to a genuine low-mileage survivor than many others on the market. Low mileage? That's the kind of thing classic car lovers dream about when seeking a canvas for restoration.
  • The Porsche 914, often referred to as "the people's Porsche," has seen a resurgence in popularity as a quirky but beloved addition to any collection. While the paint may not be up to concours standards, the car’s originality and solid mechanical updates make it an intriguing restoration project—perhaps not ready for Pebble Beach, but definitely a conversation starter at your local car meet. And you get to exercise your inner artist with a fresh repaint!
