Description

Very rare 73 bmw Bavaria, dual carb inline 6, 4 speed manual transmission, it runs and drives. I bought it from the second owner who has owned it since 1983. It's been sitting for a handful of years, I bypassed the original gas tank because it needs to be cleaned or replaced. Has 4 brand new tires, brakes need to be bled. Clean title, cash only, you probably won't find another one in original condition. Maitland Florida 32751 ...

Our Take:
  • Rarity and Legacy: The BMW Bavaria was a unique model produced mostly for the North American market between 1971 and 1974. This particular example from 1973 is increasingly rare today, especially in unrestored original condition. As a member of BMW's E3 series, the Bavaria introduced many to the joy of driving a luxury sports sedan without breaking the bank.
  • Engine and Performance: Equipped with a dual carburetor inline 6, the Bavaria provided a driving experience reminiscent of a European grand tourer. Despite the seller's mix-up on the transmission—described both as automatic and manual—the dual carb setup was iconic for its time, known for delivering a smooth yet exhilarating experience.
  • Historical Pedigree: The Bavaria played a crucial role in establishing BMW's reputation in the American market. Its blend of performance, luxury, and understated style appealed to those who wanted the precision of a sports car with the practicality of a sedan. It wasn't unusual for these cars to be imagined peeling through the Alps, even if their real journey was more likely down a suburban street.
  • Potential for Enthusiasts: With only 65,000 miles on the clock, this Bavaria is a gem in the rough for vintage BMW enthusiasts. While it may need a bit of loving—cleaning out the gas tank and bleeding the brakes—the reward is a piece of automotive history that speaks volumes about the evolution of the "ultimate driving machine." Wouldn't it be something to see this beauty restored to its former glory?
