Description

Unfortunately parting ways with my 1980 Citroen CX. Bought this car as a project to turn into a survivor/driver example, but have been too busy to invest the time into it lately. Car is a Pallas trim, highest luxury model with AC, power windows, citroens full power Diravi steering, along with full hydro suspension and four wheel disc brakes. Only 100 of these diesels in the US. Body has surface rust, but the frame itself/floors are in pretty good shape. Exhaust and AC system were replaced before...

Our Take:
  • Obscure Charm: The Citroen CX 2500D Pallas is already a rare sight in the U.S., and this 1980 model is a standout. With only about 100 diesel versions reportedly imported, it's like finding a four-leaf clover for those who appreciate French automotive artistry. The Pallas was the top-tier luxury trim, making it desirable among collectors who crave that authentic French flair in their garages.
  • Innovative Technology: One of the most fascinating aspects of the CX is the full hydraulic suspension system it boasts—Citroen's legendary hydro-pneumatic setup, which provided the car with its unmistakably smooth ride. Couple that with the Diravi power steering, which has an almost self-centering quality, and it’s clear why driving a CX feels like gliding on a magic carpet. Even in today's tech-driven automotive landscape, these features hold a mystical allure.
  • Preservation Potential: The car's condition is a classic "project with potential" tale—there's the charm of the 'diamond in the rough' here. Despite some surface rust and a non-operational engine, the structure appears solid, and the rarity of the model adds intrinsic value. The original owner has already begun nurturing the mechanicals, which suggests this CX could blossom into a true survivor with some attentive care.
  • Cultural Time Capsule: The CX series was named European Car of the Year in 1975 and is emblematic of a time when Citroen dominated with innovation and distinct design. Driving or owning one today isn't just about the car itself; it's about embracing a piece of automotive history that showcased unconventional engineering and design during its era. Enthusiasts see it as more than just a vehicle—they see it as a link to a revolutionary period in car manufacturing.
