Our Take:
  • Classic Italian Charm: The 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta Sprint Veloce is a splendid example of Italian engineering mixed with a dash of flair, a standout amongst the utilitarian designs of the late '70s. With its sleek and aerodynamic lines, this model was part of Alfa's effort to bring sporty characteristics to a wider audience—think of it as a nod to circuit racing enthusiasts packaged for the daily commuter.
  • Engineered for Enthusiasts: Sporting a 4-cylinder DOHC engine, this beauty is not just about looks; it's a mechanical symphony. The dual overhead cam design was quite advanced for its time, providing smooth, high-revving power that made for an exciting drive, especially when paired with its five-speed manual gearbox—perfect for those who relish the pure joy of shifting gears themselves.
  • Rarity and Restoration: Considering the passage of over four decades, finding an Alfetta Sprint Veloce in restorable condition is quite an event. The car's current non-running status, due to issues like the broken belt on its Spica fuel injection system, could be seen as an advantage to hobbyists looking for a rewarding project. The provided spare parts add a cherry on top for any restoration plan.
  • A Piece of Racing Heritage: Alfa Romeo was no stranger to motorsports, and the Alfetta's rear transaxle layout—a feature borrowed from racing technology—improved weight distribution for enhanced handling. This aspect alone makes it a dynamic candidate not just for restoration but potentially a fun contender in events like the "24 Hours of Lemons," where character trumps pure speed.
