Description

I have owned this 1969 Duetto for over 20 years. I used it for a few summers as a daily driver, until on a high-speed highway romp it blew a head gasket. It’s still ran, and ran quite well, but I parked it in a corner until I could repair it. Then life happened, and here we are in 2024. This duetto will come with a spare used engine, spare used transmission, and spare used rear drive axle. There is a small box of other parts, including a second mechanical fuel injection unit! Spider handled quit...

Our Take:
  • A Gem from the Past: The 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 Duetto Spider is truly a classic, hailing from a time when Italian automotive design was practically an art form. It's a part of the Series 1 Spider lineup, which gained notoriety after the earlier Duetto model was driven by Dustin Hoffman in the film "The Graduate." This not only adds cinematic allure but also places the car in a special niche for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
  • Mechanical Marvels: Under the hood, the 1750 Duetto sports a 1.8-liter twin-cam engine that was pretty advanced for its time. Known for its lively performance and distinctive purr, this engine paired with an impeccable handling balance made the Spider a joy to drive on twisty roads. It's fascinating how Alfa's commitment to performance and design from back in the '60s still echoes in its modern cars today.
  • Collector's Puzzle: This particular Duetto comes with extra incentives—a spare engine, transmission, and even a mechanical fuel injection unit, which is a rare find! While the car has seen better days and will need significant bodywork, these included parts are almost like finding hidden pieces to a vintage puzzle that could bring this classic beauty back to life.
  • A Rusty Canvas with Good Bones: Despite the rust and the amateur repair work noted in the description, the core structure—the "bones"—are said to be solid. For restoration enthusiasts, this provides an opportunity to return the car to its former glory. Given its rising status among collectors, a well-restored Duetto can be as rewarding as claiming a long-lost masterpiece.
