Our Take:
  • The 1960 Austin Healey Sprite, affectionately known as the "Bugeye" (or "Frogeye" in the UK), is a well-loved classic for its distinctive headlights. However, this one's got an extra layer of intrigue—it's a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) car, meaning it was shipped in parts from England and assembled in San Francisco. This historical tidbit not only enhances its rarity but also adds a fascinating chapter to its provenance.
  • Originally outfitted with a 948cc engine, this Sprite enjoys a modest power bump with the installation of a 1098cc engine. This was a common upgrade for enthusiasts seeking a bit more pep without straying too far from authenticity. It's like giving an old jazz tune a fresh saxophone solo—familiar but with a bit more swing.
  • The inclusion of disc brakes at the front is a noteworthy upgrade for safety and drivability. Back in the day, stopping a small car was more of a prayer than a guarantee, so this addition brings it into a more confident realm of modern driving. It's like giving a vintage wine a new decanter—you're enhancing what's already delightful.
  • One of the most striking features is the rare hardtop side curtain. Considering this was a car designed for affordable open-air motoring, these hard-to-find accessories can make a collector's heart skip a beat. The red stripe, a playful racing nod, adds just the right touch of spirited flair. It’s kind of like finding a first-edition book that still has its original dust jacket intact—it's those details that truly count for enthusiasts.
