Description

I have owned the car for about 4 years now and it has been very good to me but I need something practical again. I'll start with the cons because it's not perfect: -odometer broke at 120k, I would guess it has about 150-160k miles at this point. -paint is starting to oxidize thanks to the texas sun -passenger side fender dose have a small dental -front seats are pretty worn and the carpet is original so it's also seen better days. -belt will occasionally squeak when you turn the ac on but t...

Our Take:
  • Backstory of the 944S: The 1988 Porsche 944S is a unique blend of performance and precision, boasting a 2.5-liter inline-four engine that was notable for its balance and power. Initially seen as Porsche's attempt to redefine an affordable sports car, the 944 series played a pivotal role in keeping Porsche afloat during the 1980s. Isn't it interesting how a car born amidst economic challenges can now be cherished as a vintage gem?
  • Rarity and Enthusiast Appeal: Although the 944 line was quite popular, the "S" variant is a bit of a unicorn; it featured a dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) engine, which was a departure from the standard model. This gave it an extra 16 horses to play with, making it a desirable choice for drivers who craved a little more oomph. The combination of a manual transmission and a naturally aspirated engine in today's turbocharged world is a treat for purists!
  • Condition and Potential: Despite the sun's unkindness in Texas, the seller has commendably kept up with mechanical upkeep—new clutch, timing chain, engine mounts, and more. Sure, it's got some cosmetic bruises, but isn't that part of its charm? With its complete service history and spare parts, this 944S is like a promising project waiting to be brought back to its glory days.
  • Nostalgia and Collectability: The 944's handling prowess still evokes admiration, thanks to its 50:50 weight distribution. It's not just about speed; it's about the joy of driving—a quality that has aged as gracefully as a fine wine. And let’s not forget the mix of old and new tech: a Bluetooth radio alongside the original factory unit captures the spirit of bridging past and present.
