Description

I purchased this car three years ago; the car had been sitting in storage for over ten years. The car recently has had a new valve job, new fuel pump, new water pump, rebuilt carburetor, master clutch cylinder, new plugs, wires, and battery. The car was running and driving when I got it but due to sitting so long and the gas going bad, I had all of this work done to it. The car runs and drives great and is very dependable. The car is in very nice condition overall and is in above driver quality. ...

Our Take:
  • Rare and Quirky Classic: The 1974 Saab Sonett III is a bit of an oddball in the world of classic cars. With its fiberglass body and pop-up headlights, it's got a unique charm that’s becoming increasingly rare. Saab only made about 8,368 Sonett IIIs during its entire production run from 1970 to 1974, so finding one in great condition is akin to spotting a unicorn in your backyard.
  • European Sports Car Feel: Despite being a product of Swedish engineering, the Sonett III gives off a European sports car vibe—armed with a Ford-sourced V4 engine and a manual transmission. It’s not about outright speed but rather the driving experience; it's the kind of car that makes you enjoy the journey rather than just rushing to the destination. Handling is tight, and thanks to its lightweight design, it’s quite the nimble dancer on twisty roads.
  • Rich History and Provenance: Known for their safety features in larger vehicles, Saab brought that same innovative spirit to the Sonett—though this was more about fun than practicality. Its lineage goes back to the Sonett I, originally conceived in 1955 as a rally car prototype. This model represents Saab's daring attempt to blend performance with quirkiness, which they cornered quite well.
  • Attention-Magnet with Low Mileage: With only 54,000 miles on the clock, this car has been lightly used over its nearly half-century life. Classic car enthusiasts know that while mileage isn’t everything, it does tell you about the life a car has led; this one suggests that it might’ve been more of a cherished gem than a daily workhorse. Plus, with all those eyes on it at car shows or casual drives, it's sure to spark intrigue wherever you go.
