Description

1987 Mazda RX-7 · Coupe · Driven 82,000 miles Short description- Exterior 7.5/10 Interior 9/10 Car is extremely solid and well kept. Bone stock other than the wheels, I have the factory wheels as well, the tires are just old and dry rotted on them. Has its fair share of dings for the year, but absolutely nothing major. Clean carfax, but part of the car has been resprayed at some point and isn’t a perfect match. No rust, other than surface rust underneath and the exhaust is pretty rusty....

Our Take:
  • A rare rotary delight: The 1987 Mazda RX-7 is part of the second generation of RX-7s, known as the FC. This model is celebrated for its unique Wankel rotary engine—a type of engine that you just don't see in mainstream cars anymore. This rotary engine isn't just about nostalgia; it offers a rev-happy, smooth driving experience that's quite unlike any traditional piston engine.
  • Unmolested with a vintage vibe: Finding an RX-7 of this era that is ‘bone stock’ is becoming increasingly uncommon, especially with aftermarket mods being so popular back in the day. This car retains its original charm, save for the switched wheels (with the originals still available, a thoughtful touch). It's a canvas with a few touched-up spots—like a resprayed section—but retains that classic late-80s spirit.
  • Quirky character—typical of its age: The description mentions some idiosyncrasies, like the solder issues in the interior circuit and a manually-adjusted temperature slider. These quirks are part of the charm for any car enthusiast who appreciates vintage rides. If you’ve ever handled a vintage record player or an old-school camera, you know the satisfaction of dealing with a little imperfection.
  • A solid survivor ready for adventure: With 82,000 miles on the clock, this RX-7 has confidently weathered the years. The seller even suggests they'd drive it coast-to-coast without a second thought—that says a lot. The mention of surface rust is a reminder of its age, but the lack of serious rust is a good sign, especially for potential buyers familiar with how these classics can sometimes become rust buckets in a humid climate.
