Our Take:
  • Classic Exner Design: The 1958 Dodge Royal is part of the "Swept Wing" lineup designed by Virgil Exner, known for its bold fins and flamboyant styling. The 1958 models are particularly significant for their striking appearance during the height of the "Forward Look" era, making them true icons of '50s automotive fashion.
  • Rare Four-Door Hardtop: While many might seek two-door varieties for their sporty allure, the four-door hardtop adds a unique twist. This design offers the practicality of a sedan with the elegant, pillarless style of a coupe, making it a rare gem—especially in such pristine condition as this example.
  • Museum Quality Restoration: Having spent two decades in a museum, this Dodge Royal has been preserved with historical integrity. The comprehensive restoration in the early 2000s, including engine and transmission rebuilds, ensures that while it looks its age, it performs like new. Plus, recent updates to the carburetors and brakes further guarantee its roadworthiness.
  • Craftsmanship and Preservation: The description notes a custom trunk pan designed for display, highlighting the car's transition from a museum piece to a drivable classic. Such attention to detail in restoration—not sacrificing authenticity for practicality—makes it a wonderful specimen for enthusiasts who appreciate both the art and science of classic car restoration.
