Description

Looking to sell my 1986 2.3-16v Manual with ~145k miles in decent condition. Clean California title in hand, but failed smog earlier this year and not currently tagged. I recently replaced the lambda sensor but feels like the car needs some adjustment to get it running right again. Selling because I spend more time looking at it than driving it… I’ve probably put only a few hundred miles in the 4+ years of ownership. Our Take:
  • The Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16v isn't just any 190E. It's a piece of racing legacy disguised as a compact executive car. Born from Mercedes' rivalry with BMW in the DTM racing arena, the 2.3-16v has a Cosworth-tuned engine—a detail that'll make any enthusiast's ears perk up. This car, in its era, was the cornerstone for rally-bred performance in a luxury skin.
  • With a manual transmission and much of its original spec retained, this car is a rare find. The manual gearbox complements the high-revving nature of the engine, calling back to its motorsport roots. If you're the sort who loves feeling directly connected to the road, this model offers one of the purest drives of its time.
  • Despite its few quirks, such as the sunroof issues and air conditioning woes, there's a charm in these little inconveniences—reminiscent of vintage German engineering where mechanical complexity sometimes got the better of pragmatism. But hey, isn't that part of the old-car ownership adventure? Plus, with the replaced dash and Recaro seats, you’ll find a refreshed cabin with a touch of heritage racing flair.
  • The included Compomotive wheels and Fließen exhaust add a personalized and performance-focused twist to the car's character. These are nods to enthusiasts who appreciate the symbiosis of classic design and modified performance. Even though it's not a museum piece, this 190E is a canvas that's been carefully updated, offering both a trip down memory lane and a taste of modern tweaks.
