Our Take:
  • A Glimpse into Post-War Car Manufacturing: The Nash Metropolitan was quite the head-turner in its time, introduced as a subcompact before subcompacts were even a thing! Built between 1953 and 1961, it was designed to meet the demand for economical city cars. Imagine cruising the streets in the era where big fins and chrome were all the rage—this little beauty took a different path altogether.
  • British-American Collaboration: While Nash was an American automaker, the Metropolitan was actually assembled in England by the Austin Motor Company. It's like the Beatles and Elvis had a car baby! This unique transatlantic partnership resulted in a quirky car that was smaller than most American offerings of the time, making it a pretty rare find today.
  • The “3 on a Tree” Shifter: The phrase "3 on a tree" might sound like a nursery rhyme, but it refers to the column-mounted manual transmission. It was a common feature back in the day but feels delightfully old-school now. Operating it can transport you back to an era when driving was more of an art form and less about autopilot convenience.
  • A Collector’s Gem: The 1961 model year is notable as it was among the last produced before Nash was phased out under the American Motors Corporation (AMC) brand. This car represents a slice of automotive history, embodying the end of an era. And with only 75,000 miles, it's likely seen less road than many of its contemporaries, which adds to its charm.
