Our Take:
  • Baur TC2 rarity: The 1985 BMW 318i Baur TC2 is quite the collectible piece, especially for lovers of quirky BMWs. Baur was a coachbuilder known for making convertible conversions, and these TC2s were an intriguing mix of cabriolet and targa configurations—meaning you've got a semi-convertible setup that's not your everyday 3 Series.
  • European roots: Imported from Europe in the late '90s, this car brings a slice of European flair stateside. These Baur-converted models were never officially sold here in the US, making it a conversation starter at car meets. It’s like owning a story from the Autobahn days just as BMW was cementing its reputation for driver-focused vehicles.
  • Condition and modifications: With the interior reupholstered and the exterior freshly repainted, this vehicle has seen some love. You might say it's been treated with the kind of care you'd expect for a vintage race horse. RH mesh wheels, meticulously restored by the well-regarded Roman Vistak, add a touch of personal craftsmanship not common in just any restoration.
  • Mechanical reliability and restoration work: The seller mentions over $5,000 in receipts, and a crack-free dash—those receipts likely tell the tale of careful stewardship. The “runs like a dream” claim suggests a well-sorted engine, which is a real plus since these M10 engines have a reputation for perseverance when properly pampered.
