Our Take:
  • Historical Significance: The 1991 BMW 850i was part of the E31 series, which represented BMW's foray into the luxury grand touring segment during the early '90s. Known for its sleek, wedge-shaped design, the 850i was a symbol of sophistication and cutting-edge technology—automatic transmission and a V12 engine weren't common for its time! It was BMW's flagship model, showcasing the brand's prowess in engineering and luxury.
  • V12 Engine Marvel: Under the hood, the 850i boasts a 5.0-liter V12 engine, which was quite a feat back then. With around 300 horsepower, it delivered smooth, effortless power that made long-distance cruising a joy. The fact that this engine has been rebuilt 35,000 miles ago provides peace of mind for anyone worried about its typical V12 complexities.
  • Restoration and Documentation: This particular 850i has undergone a thoughtful restoration, including new paint and leather upholstery. The meticulous records from its previous engineer owner—and the inclusion of extra original parts—highlight a well-cared-for vehicle. Those 20-inch Alpina wheels add a touch of flair, though purists might appreciate the brand-new 18-inch Alpina wheels that are still boxed.
  • Rarity Factor: Given the original production numbers and the passage of time, finding a 1991 850i in such restored condition with low mileage on a rebuilt engine is increasingly rare. These cars are becoming collectibles—often cherished by enthusiasts who appreciate the combination of luxury, innovation, and style that only the E31 can offer.
