Our Take:
  • The 1988 BMW 535is is a bit of a hidden gem in the classic BMW world. Often overshadowed by its M5 sibling, this model offered a more accessible way to experience BMW's sporty E28 chassis. Plus, it came with factory sport suspension and a limited-slip differential—features that made it quite the driver's car in its day.
  • Sporting an alpine white exterior, this car stands out as one of the more desirable colorways among enthusiasts. Although the engine is swapped, maintaining the correct 535is engine preserves its authenticity. The manual transmission adds to the driving thrill—let's be honest, who doesn’t love rowing gears in a classic Beemer?
  • The mention of a full M5 body kit adds an interesting twist. While purists could raise an eyebrow, this certainly gives the vehicle a more aggressive look, hinting at the performance pedigree without fully being an M5. It's like wearing a tuxedo to a dinner party when everyone else is in business casual—a bold move, to say the least!
  • Although the car isn’t running due to injector issues, the body’s rust-free status is a testament to good care or lucky geography—rust can be a dealbreaker in older cars. And with a relatively low mileage engine and iconic '80s electric features (sunroof, seats, windows), it’s a project that promises both challenge and reward for someone willing to revive it.
