Description

Getting the itch since my aw11 is down. 1990 century, recently got it in a trade. 130k km. 4.0 V8 auto. Everything works except the windows and tems, the shocks need the wiring redone, and the windows have new gears in the motors. Passenger side dent on the fender, took me a minute to notice it. Our Take:
  • Rarity and Prestige: The 1990 Toyota Century is a rare sight outside of Japan, where it was mostly reserved for high-ranking officials and executives. Known as Toyota's flagship luxury vehicle at the time, it embodies a unique blend of understated elegance and exclusivity, akin to spotting a unicorn in a parking lot full of Corollas.
  • Engine and Performance: This model is powered by a 4.0L V8 engine—a feature that stands out in a time when the Japanese auto industry was better known for efficient four-bangers. It's designed more for smoothness and refinement than outright speed, much like a reliable old friend who's always there for a leisurely Sunday drive.
  • Cultural Significance: The Toyota Century holds a mythical status in Japan, often compared to the Rolls-Royce in terms of being a symbol of status. Its classic design with features like wing windows harkens back to an era when luxury was more about comfort and less about tech-driven gimmickry.
  • Condition and Potential Projects: Though it has some wear typical of a classic car—like minor rust and a shimmy from potentially warped rotors—it's a solid canvas for restoration enthusiasts. The seller's mention of window gear replacements and needing wiring work on the shocks hints at a project with the potential for a rewarding bond with the car, almost like nurturing a bonsai tree back to its own full grandeur.
