Description

For sale or trade is my 1986 Audi Coupe. Looking to trade for a running and driving RV. The Audi has been sitting for a couple years. It will need the firewall welded where the clutch master cylinder bolts in. Unfortunately, I don't have more pictures at the moment. The car is a 5-speed. It had an engine swap with a later model 2.3l NG done by the previous owner. The engine has a built head and cam from 034 Motorsports with ARP head bolts. Milage is unknown. Our Take:
  • 1986 Audi Coupe GT was ahead of its time with its striking wedge-shaped design and a true rally car spirit. Originally, it featured an inline-five engine known for its unique warbling symphony—some might even call it the mechanical equivalent of a Pink Floyd album. The model remains a darling among Audi aficionados for its special blend of performance and luxury.
  • This particular Coupe GT is unique with a later model 2.3l NG engine swap. That bit of Frankenstein engineering—especially with a built head and cam from 034 Motorsports—makes it a sleeper on the road. Normally, you'd find a non-turbo 2.2-liter, but this overhaul could make it even more of a driver’s delight, given it’s been assembled with care and passion—oh, the allure of a five-speed manual too!
  • Consider the challenges and opportunities: While it’s been sitting for a couple of years, the lack of rust is a blessing. The current issue with the clutch master cylinder and the need for welding marks this as a project car, but what’s a compelling automotive story without a bit of drama? It’s like restoring a classic painting where each brushstroke has a tale to tell.
  • Collector's note: The Coupe GT wasn't as common as the Quattro, making it somewhat of a hidden gem. Its rarity today means it’s one of those cars you might not find on every block, but certainly one that will turn heads at a car meet. For those in the know, driving a well-maintained Coupe GT is akin to wielding a piece of Audi history, complete with all the quirks and tales that come with it.
