I bought this Lotus Turbo Esprit several months ago for $30000 , cash. It was parked in a barn, covered in dust and had not been driven in a while. Car did start right up and sounded good. I paid cash, pulled it out of the barn and brought it home on a trailer.
Before it was parked a year & 1/2 ago, it had new tires, new brakes, new clutch and new timing belt/ water pump / idler.
Guy I bought it from said it had been painted to look like the James Bond/ 007 car in 'From Russia With Love' - and it does look exactly like that - Same copper color (car was originally red) , same gold BBS wheels, etc.
I thought I would dial the car in and use it... and the first time I attempted to get in the car, I realized this is not the car for me. I am 6 feet tall, have big feet, and weigh 240 pounds. It is hard to get in and out of, and I can not drive the car with my shoes on. BArely with my shoes off.
The car needs many things.. it seems to have been taken apart to paint, and paint shop lost a few things, and hooked up some wires wrong, and now headlights do not go up and down, radiator fans run all the time, stereo does not work...
Clutch feels like it needs to be bled. Pedal has to be pushed very hard to get into reverse.
Interior looks amazing , new velour panels in the headliner and stuff.
If you know Lotus, you know these are not the best quality made cars... rattly/ etc.
This is , however, a very rare and expensive car and has the potential to be worth a lot of $$$ ... I feel like I am at an event horizon right now , though, in terms of either spending a lot more time and possibly money on it which I do not have , or cutting loose right now and maybe getting something else I fit in.
If this car fit a bit better, I would love to finish it, but I do not, which kills the motivation to work on it or pay someone else to work on it.
I would like something close to what I have into it, cash-wise .
I would also be willing to trade for something COOL , EUROPEAN , AND SIMILAR IN VALUE. Porsche 911 (air cooled) any condition, 912, Citroen SM/ DS , Jaguar XKE , VW Microbus/ 23 window / Doka/ Sinka
I am *not* interested in your Jeep, Mustang (unless a real Mach1 ) , or 2007 Dodge Charger. I do not want your Ford F150. (But might consider a 1950 Ford F1) - AMC AMX ? maybe?
I would take a Ferrari Mondial / 308 project / Fiat Dino , as these all accommodate bigger people. VW Campers , Land Rover Defender , 88 , 109, 130 . Range Rover Classic(s) plus cash.
I do not want to put any cash in on any trade.
If you want to offer a trade, please send a couple of photos with your phone number for me to consider.
I am not going to make appointments to show anyone my car without talking to them first on the phone and determining if you are serious, have the funds, etc . to buy this car. I just do not have the bandwidth in my life at the moment for bullshit.
Clear Oregon title in hand, clean Carfax report, no accidents / issues/ losses reported.
What else can I tell you ? Thank you for reading all of this, if you did, and please send a phone number with any questions you may have, and I will call you ASAP . See less
