Our Take:
  • The 1987 Audi 5000 S is part of Audi's line that gained a lot of attention in the mid-'80s, but not always for the right reasons. It was embroiled in a bit of controversy over "unintended acceleration" claims—later found to be mostly driver error—but that media storm marked a turning point for Audi in the U.S. market. To think, in the era of shoulder pads and synth music, this car was a tech marvel.
  • This car features the now-classic Audi five-cylinder engine, which was a pretty big deal back in the day. These engines are known for their distinct sound and durability, a characteristic that's kept some vintage car lovers interested. If you're into nostalgia, this engine sings a tune that harks back to those late-night drives with a soundtrack of '80s rock.
  • Given its location in Texas and the fact it's "not rotted," it seems like it's dodged the rust issues that plague many cars of its age. In the world of vintage cars, metal and paint preservation is akin to discovering a treasure trove of original parts, which keeps enthusiasts up at night dreaming.
  • The salvage title is a bit of a conundrum, largely due to mechanical issues rather than a crash. It's a classic "fixer-upper" scenario, suitable for those who appreciate a touch of adventure with their Sunday drives. The description mentions fuel and brake line replacements, so it sounds like some TLC (and a bit of DIY savvy) could bring this Audi back to life in a big way.
