Description

1996 850 R JDM. Imported from Japan several years ago. Right hand drive. Everything works. A few mods I had added. Upgraded front Porsche brakes and rotors, Coil overs, Volvo radio replaced with American version. I still have the Japan Volvo radio. Added the Pegs from IPD. I have the original Volan wheels. Our Take:
- Remarkable Rarity: The 1996 Volvo 850 R is a bit of a unicorn among performance sedans—especially in this JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) configuration. The fact that it's a right-hand drive model imported from Japan elevates its uniqueness in the U.S. market, making it a head-turner for enthusiasts who appreciate a dash of the unexpected. - Performance Pedigree: The 850 R was Volvo's attempt to shake off its safe, sensible image with a turbocharged inline-5 engine delivering a hefty punch. With only a limited number of these models produced, and fewer imported, it’s a true collector's item. Partner that with the car’s upgraded Porsche brakes and coilovers, and you've got a performance sedan that's as much about stopping as it is about going. - Nostalgic Nod: For those who were kids in the '90s, the 850 R might spark a memory or two—it was indeed cool enough to have a Hot Wheels version. This fact alone imbues the car with a playful nostalgia, bridging the gap between childhood dreams of speed and adult realities of car ownership. - Cultural Mash-Up: With modifications like the IPD Pegs and the Maxxton front air splitter, plus the swapped American Volvo radio, this car is a fascinating blend of Swedish engineering, Japanese market exclusivity, and aftermarket flair. It encapsulates the global nature of car culture, where different influences come together to create something truly special.
