Description

Classic 1970 BMW 2002. I bought this with plans to take care of the needed body work over a few years. I have a M20 motor and transmission that I planned to swap as well. I took care of the mechanicals last winter. Water pump, thermostat, and fan. Replaced all suspension components front and rear including struts and a set of 50mm drop AST springs. Replaced the worn out seats with a set of VW seats. Interior is in pretty good shape. Headliner is very nice, door cards are complete. Smoot...

Our Take:
  • The 1970 BMW 2002 is a quintessential classic that helped put BMW on the map for producing sporty and dynamic vehicles. Known for its agile handling and spirited M10 engine, the 2002 was a trendsetter in the compact sports car scene during the late '60s and early '70s. It's part of the iconic "Neue Klasse" series; and despite being over 50 years old, it still turns heads and evokes nods of appreciation from car aficionados.
  • With the mention of an M20 motor and transmission swap, this 2002 presents an enticing project for enthusiasts. The M20, a straight-six engine used in later models, could boost performance significantly. Such a swap isn’t for the faint-hearted but opens the door to a totally transformed driving experience—think of it like giving a classic song a fresh remix!
  • Suspension upgrades with AST springs and new sway bars suggest enhanced handling and stance, making this 2002 even more tempting for those who enjoy carving through twisty roads. The fact that all suspension components have been replaced is a boon—much like finding a hidden gem in the rough. It’s as though this car is whispering "take me for a spin" with a promise of a smooth yet thrilling ride.
  • The authenticity is a bit of a mixed bag with the Volkswagen seats, but they could offer a quirky talking point at car meets. The interior's in admirable shape for its age, though—it's like discovering your grandmother's attic and realizing there’s more treasure than trash. The small touch of modernization could make it more comfortable for long drives without losing its classic charm.
