Description

1969 Lotus Europa S2. This is a very complete Europa. I bought this as retirement project but do to changes in life circumstances it looks like it will be at least four more years before I can retire. So I have decided to sell it. Needs body work but has a solid frame. All glass is intact. Transmission shifts through the gears but the clutch cable is frozen. All electronics work including the power windows. Interior is in nice condition including the dash. Motor turns over but the water pump is ...

Our Take:
  • The Lotus Europa S2 holds a special place in automotive history as one of the earliest production mid-engine sports cars. Introduced in the late '60s, the Europa was light as a feather—thanks to its fiberglass body over a steel backbone chassis—and it carried a reputation for superb handling. Driving one is like stepping into the shoes of the greats; imagine you're Jim Clark zipping down a curvy road, absorbing every nuance of the asphalt beneath the tires.
  • Although the Europa S2 was more comfortable than the original Series 1, it maintained that minimalist charm Lotus is known for. Despite being a "project" car, this one seems to have its crucial parts intact, including working electronics and a preserved interior. You'll be hard-pressed to find another with such complete original features; those Cosmic wheels are a delightful period touch that enthusiasts adore.
  • Underneath the hood, this Europa S2 comes with a set of go-faster goodies that hint at a potential performance boost. The inclusion of a Weber 45 carburetor paired with a Hermes intake suggests someone had speed on their mind. This particular car is almost whispering promises of the exhilarating rides it can offer once restored—complete with a Mobelec electronic ignition system to spice things up.
  • This little slice of automotive history could be a dream rebuild for the right enthusiast. With a package of additional parts, like the dismantled 821 motor and polished crank, there's room to create something truly unique. It's in pieces now, but the potential to transform it into a snarling classic is just beneath the surface.
