Description

Privately owned 1977 Lotus Elite Big Valve Twin Cam - 5 speed, original parts, as pictured. Purchased in 1998 and rolled into the garage, this is a solid car for a re-build project. It was driving around the back roads when first acquired, however, last time I had it running, the water pump was leaking. We bought a rebuild kit & has a bearing presses installed. All glass is intact. Manual included. Original tool kit. Body is straight. ...

Our Take:
  • Unique Fiberglass Construction: The 1977 Lotus Elite was part of a lineup that boasted a distinctive fiberglass body—a rarity back in the day. This not only made the car lighter but often led to fewer issues with body rust. Considering its age, a straight fiberglass body is a remarkable find, especially for those who appreciate the craftsmanship and quirky design choices of Lotus.
  • Big Valve Twin Cam Engine: This Elite features the renowned Lotus Big Valve Twin Cam engine, which was a significant selling point in the '70s. This powerplant, paired with a five-speed manual transmission, offers a thrilling driving experience reminiscent of a time when cars were raw and drivers were truly engaged—perfect for the enthusiast who enjoys the tactile sensation of manual shifts.
  • Low Mileage for a Classic: With just 46,675 miles on the clock, this Elite hasn't seen the heavy miles one might expect of a car from this era. Given that it's been garage-kept since 1998, it seems likely to have avoided some of the wear and tear typically found on older vehicles. This could be an excellent opportunity for a restoration hobbyist, especially since some of the original parts are still in place.
  • Complete with Original Accessories: The inclusion of the original tool kit and manual adds a layer of authenticity and completeness that aficionados often seek. For collectors or restorers, these original extras can sometimes be as exciting as the car itself—kind of like finding the record sleeve with all its original inserts.
