Description

Subaru XT turbo, rare eighties gem. Runs and drives. Small frame rust. Car has been sitting for the past two years. It gets moved and started every month. Has not been on the road since. The power steering pump failed when I was driving it it drives fine with out, I have a brand new one and front and rear brake pads in a box that is included. The rust is not structural and not horrible. Will need new tires. Will need some loving but was my daily when parked. Car is all original If the add is up...

Our Take:
  • Distinctive Design: The 1987 Subaru XT was quite the head-turner back in its day, not just because of its angular, wedge-shaped design but also because of its airplane-inspired cockpit. Subaru wanted to make a statement with the XT, and they sure did—who could forget those pop-up headlights and the digital dash, reminiscent of a fighter jet? This quirky design was unlike anything else on the road at the time, making it a collector's dream today.
  • Turbocharged Performance: The XT turbo version offered an interesting blend of performance and economy, thanks to its turbocharged flat-four engine—a hallmark of Subaru's engineering prowess. It wasn't a rocket ship by today's standards, but it delivered a spirited drive that enthusiasts still appreciate. The automatic transmission might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it was part of the charm for a car that wanted to offer something different.
  • Rarity and Enthusiast Appeal: This model wasn't produced in large numbers, especially with the turbo engine, which adds a layer of rarity. They don't pop up for sale often, especially in relatively untouched, original condition like this one, which is why they catch the eye of collectors. The XT represents a time when Subaru dared to be different, a quality that's admired by enthusiasts today.
  • Lovingly Cared For: Although it's been sitting, the seller clearly cared for the car by starting it regularly and acknowledging the small frame rust. The inclusion of a new power steering pump and brake pads shows a dedication to maintaining its roadworthiness. It'll need some TLC—new tires and maybe a bit of rust attention—but for someone who appreciates vintage Subaru models, it's a small price to pay for such an interesting piece of automotive history.
