Our Take:
  • Quirky Charm with a Dash of Rarity: The Renault Dauphine was a post-war masterpiece aimed at competing with the likes of the Volkswagen Beetle and Fiat 500. While over two million were produced globally, finding one with a functioning push-button gear selector is rather unusual. This quirky feature adds not just character but a hint of exclusivity - a talking point for any classic car enthusiast.
  • Historical Legacy with French Flair: Released in November 1964, this model marks one of the final years of the Dauphine's production run before Renault shifted focus to newer models. Known for its nimble handling and economic design, it embodied the spirit of French engineering that prioritized practicality. The fact that it comes with the original dealership advertising docs is a treasure trove for nostalgia lovers and history buffs alike.
  • A Canvas for a Restoration Project: Let’s be honest; it’s got its challenges. The rust hole—a notorious issue for Dauphines, especially in the damp climates of the East Coast—will require some love and attention. But, for those looking to roll up their sleeves, this car offers a fantastic opportunity to restore a piece of automotive history. A little sweat equity could potentially transform this into a stunning classic showpiece.
  • Art of Patina and Provenance: The seller mentions 'great patina,' which, in the classic car world, is as revered as a well-loved pair of jeans. It suggests authenticity and a life well-lived on the open road. Even with the aesthetic blemishes—a dented rear and torn driver's seat—this Dauphine embodies the lived experience of an era where style met substance. Plus, those original keys are like finding the crown jewels!
