Description

We've decided to relocate so unfortunately I won't be able to finish this project that just needs very minor body work and paint, the headliner could also use a replacement. The rest of the interior has been restored and is in great shape. The flathead six still fires right up and has no problems driving. I just replaced the ball joints on the front end so it will need alignment and I recommend trailering it to the alignment shop. This amazing piece of history is also equipped with a fluid drive...

Our Take:
  • A Glimpse into Post-War America: The 1948 Chrysler Windsor reflects the post-World War II era when car manufacturers ramped up production to meet burgeoning consumer demand. It's a large, elegant sedan that boasts a kind of pre-finned simplicity—before the automotive industry fully embraced the flamboyant designs of the 1950s.
  • Innovative Fluid Drive Transmission: This Windsor's got what's known as a "fluid drive" transmission. It's an intriguing mix of manual and automatic operation that tells you how manufacturers were experimenting with making driving easier. It's not quite like today's automatics, but it was the start of something big.
  • Flathead Six Engine's Resilience: The flathead six engine is a testament to engineering durability. These engines, known for their simplicity, were workhorses that were easy to maintain—probably why this one still "fires right up" after decades.
  • Project and Preservation Potential: With only 24,000 miles, this Windsor could be a rare find for enthusiasts looking to restore a piece of history. Given its recent mechanical updates, like the new brake components and floor pan, it's poised as a great project for someone wanting to bridge the gap between past and future automotive innovation.
