Description

Hey there, i bought this car in the summer of 2023 with the knowledge that the starter motor wasn't working and a goal to fix it. However I never got around to fixing it because of multiple reasons, so it still does not run... as far as I know, I'm the 3rd owner, and I have all the registration papers with the car. It would be a fun boot around town kind of car if it was fixed but at this current point in time I've lost the inclination to fix it, leaving it sitting in the barn taking up space an...

Our Take:
  • A Peek into Renault's Sporting Heritage: The 1986 Renault 5 GTL Sport brings back memories of Renault's knack for crafting small, dynamic vehicles in a time when hot hatches were making waves. While not as renowned as its turbocharged sibling, the iconic Renault 5 Turbo, the GTL Sport offered an enticing blend of lightweight agility and practicality. It's kind of like having a Jack Russell Terrier in the world of hatchbacks—spunky and full of surprises.
  • Manual Transmission Delight: With a manual transmission, this car offers that old-school driving connection enthusiasts crave—imagine feeling each gear shift as if you're in a motorsports tale from the past. For those who relish the tactile experience of driving, this little French dynamo could be like a baguette in the land of white bread: just a bit more exciting.
  • Project Potential Galore: As outlined in the seller's description, the car's non-running status makes it quite the project—but that’s part of the charm for many enthusiasts. The fact that it comes with a new radiator and that parts aren’t a unicorn hunt suggests that it could be a fun and fulfilling undertaking for those looking to step into the car restoration arena. Just imagine the satisfaction of reviving this spirited French classic.
  • The Patina of Age: While rust is a concern, it also tells the story of the car's journey through time—think of it as a badge of honor from the elements. If tastefully addressed, the patina can add character akin to a vintage leather jacket that gets more authentic with age. Plus, it gives a potential owner the opportunity to add their own chapter to this Renault's narrative.
