Description

I would like to sell or trade my 1972 mercury marquis. I’ve only had it since September, but I it was kind of an impulse buy and I haven’t fallen in love with it like i was hoping to so it needs a good home. It has a 429 big block with a new edelbrock carburetor. It runs and drives pretty good but it does leak transmission fluid. Our Take:
  • The 1972 Mercury Grand Marquis is a bit of a sleeper in the collector's world. It's part of the second generation of full-sized cars produced by Mercury, and it's often overshadowed by its flashier cousins like the Ford LTD and Lincoln Town Car. Despite its lower profile, the Grand Marquis featured a lush interior and a smooth ride, which was a sign of the luxury from this era.
  • Under the hood, you'll find a mighty 429 cubic inch big block engine. Talk about muscle! The new Edelbrock carburetor could potentially enhance performance if tuned right. However, related issues like the fuel drip mentioned might need a keen eye to sort out. It's worth noting that these engines are often loved for the throaty roars they produce—something that might make any spur-of-the-moment buy feel justified.
  • The automatic transmission, while convenient, does appear to be a bit leaky. This isn't uncommon for cars of this vintage, and replacing seals or even a rebuild might be in order. It's a project, sure, but think of the satisfaction when it's cruising smooth down the highway! Plus, these older transmissions have a quirkiness that enthusiasts often find charming.
  • Regarding the braking system, new rear brake lines are a solid start, but a new master cylinder might just make all the difference. Pumping the brakes is definitely not ideal—especially if you're trying to enjoy the open road. Again, such tasks require a bit of TLC, but imagine the confidence in driving this classic once everything's squared away.
