Description

This is 1989 BMW V12 750IL for $1500. The car is all there, No rust. I was told this car was priced between $95.000 and $100,000 back in 1989. It is what they call a drive by wire. That has to do with the throttle. That is what needs fixed. Just the Catalytic Converter is worth $600 or more. These cars are known for reaching speeds up to 160 mph I have I think all the receipts of work done on the car. I have the Title in hand....

Our Take:
  • Flagship of the Late '80s: The 1989 BMW 750iL was the pinnacle of luxury and engineering prowess for BMW back in the day. With its mighty 5.0-liter V12 engine, it was one of the first modern production cars to feature such a power plant; imagine being a BMW engineer at a time when "12 cylinders" was the secret password to the luxury kingdom!
  • Innovative Technology: You mentioned “drive-by-wire,” which was still a budding technology at that time. Essentially, this meant electronic throttle control, quite the buzzword back then and a bit akin to moving from LP records to digital music—technological magic! This was part of BMW's push into incorporating technological advancements that seem quaint today but were groundbreaking then.
  • Pricey Pedigree: The seller isn't kidding about its original price tag; at nearly $100,000 in 1989, that's over $200,000 in today's dollars when adjusted for inflation. Can you imagine the sense of prestige one felt pulling into a driveway with such an investment? It was the automotive equivalent of wearing a tailored Armani suit.
  • Collector Potential: Considering its original features and the lack of rust—a notorious adversary to classic car enthusiasts everywhere—this 750iL could be more than just a car; it might be the beginning of a beautiful restoration story. The complete set of receipts could provide a fascinating roadmap of its mechanical journey, adding another layer to its rich story.
