Description

German Ford Capri. Imported from Germany and none of the Federalized features that detract from the beauty of this classic. During the 7 years I've owned this car its been garage kept until the last three months, so its time for it to find a new home. Runs, drives, usual older car problems that may need sorted. Very good condition for its age. Ignition switch is currently apart as I damaged the key, I do have working door keys and blanks are available if you want to get the ignition re-keyed. ...

Our Take:
  • Continental Charm: The 1978 Ford Capri is a beloved gem, often referred to as the "European Mustang." Originally built in Germany, this particular Capri avoids the "federalized" features that were often added to meet U.S. regulations—features that many purists feel alter the car's true European aesthetic. It's like having a passport to the raw, original design and engineering flair that Ford of Europe intended.
  • Manual Transmission Joyride: Equipped with a manual transmission, this Capri promises an engaging driving experience that's increasingly rare in a world of automatics. Driving a stick shift is like dancing with your car, where every shift is a step and every corner a twist that you feel through the soles of your feet.
  • Engine Swap Potential: Sporting a 1.6-liter engine, it's a modest powerplant by today's standards. However, the Capri's engine bay is known for being welcoming to a variety of upgrades—yes, even a throaty V8 if you've got the knack. Swapping engines is almost a rite of passage for many Capri enthusiasts, transforming it into a sleeper that no one sees coming at the stoplight.
  • Timeless Design: With its sleek, coupe lines and distinct '70s styling, the Capri holds a timeless appeal for classic car aficionados. Despite "usual older car problems" mentioned, its overall solid condition as described by the seller adds to the charm—kind of like a character actor in a film, with each rust spot and dent telling a story about its journey across time.
