Description

Update: I sent the car to a very bad bodywork shop, and had to take it back from them unfinished. That said the rust areas are now sanded down to bare metal. This could be a plus or minus depending how you see it. Also, the front driveshaft bushing (Guibo) is failing causing some noise. Hence the lower price. Runs and drives. 1979 Alfa Romeo Sprint Veloce. 44,000 miles, very clean interior; perfect headliner and dash board. Carpet and upholstery immaculate. Engine runs strong and drivetrain...

Our Take:
  • Historical Significance: The 1979 Alfa Romeo Sprint Veloce is a bit of a hidden gem from the late '70s. While not as famous as its Giulia brethren, the Sprint Veloce was part of Alfa's Alfasud project, which was an attempt to blend sportiness with practicality. It's a tightrope walk between a racer and a daily driver—a true 'if you know, you know' kind of car for Alfa devotees.
  • Rarity and Obscurity: It's quite rare to find a Sprint Veloce on the roads today, especially stateside. Alfa Romeo's presence in America during this era was limited, making this a special find. With historic registration and California smog compliance (a hurdle for many older Euro imports), this one really stands out in the U.S. landscape.
  • Mechanical Quirks: The mention of a failing Guibo—not to be confused with a typo, this is a flexible rubber coupling—is typical of many older European cars. Known for facilitating smooth driveshaft movement, a dodgy one can be a source of frustration but is relatively straightforward to replace. Enthusiasts might see this as part of the charm of tinkering with a classic Alfa.
  • Well-Maintained Interior: With only 44,000 miles on the clock and an interior described as immaculate, this Sprint Veloce offers a rare glimpse into Alfa's design ethos of the late '70s. The perfect headliner and dash are hard to come by in cars of this age, suggesting a pampered life. It's details like these that can be a delight to both purists and collectors alike, akin to discovering vinyl in mint condition at a garage sale.
