Description

A truly original SHO. 3.2L with automatic transmission. Runs and drives nice, sounds great. Very clean interior which includes the original phone these came with. Very good condition for year. LOOK AT PICTURES. Comes with a newer set of tires. Has valve cover gasket leak at back and downshifts a little harsh when slowing down between 3rd and 2nd gear. Otherwise shifts very nice. This is an original 30 year old SHO, no I don't know what it needs for safety but it runs and drives nice. Sold AS ...

Our Take:
  • Unique Performance Heritage: The 1993 Ford Taurus SHO (Super High Output) is an intriguing piece of automotive history. It was a collaboration between Ford and Yamaha, with Yamaha providing the 3.0L and later 3.2L V6 engines, which were quite the departure from your average family sedan. This model, especially with its automatic transmission, was designed to bring high performance to the everyday driver.
  • Rising Rarity: Despite its success in the '90s, finding an original SHO in good condition today is becoming increasingly rare. The mileage on this one is pretty high at over 277,000 km, but that's not uncommon for a car that was likely both a daily driver and a weekend fun car. Many SHOs have been lost to rust or the scrapyard, making surviving examples something of a cult classic.
  • Interior Time Capsule: The mention of the original phone is a charming nod to the technological wonders of the early '90s. It’s like stepping into a time machine back to when in-car phones were a luxurious novelty. A clean interior for a car of this age is a highlight—especially when it still has the original, now retro-futuristic, gadgets.
  • Common Quirks: The described valve cover gasket leak and transmission quirk are typical SHO issues, especially in aging models. It’s similar to finding rust on an old British car—a tad disappointing but utterly expected. While these issues could be minor—or the start of a grand adventure in vintage car maintenance—they’re part of the SHO's charm and tell the story of a well-used machine.
