For sale or trade! 1981 Porsche 924 Turbo S2 (931). The car was purchased it off a couple of brothers, and unfortunately the car needs more work then I was led to believe. This is a 2 owner, original California car with 59k MILES (95k km) and is in genuinely gorgeous shape. I was told it was kept indoors on Vancouver island up until 2022 which I'm led to believe. Our Take:
  • Rarity and Historical Significance: The 1981 Porsche 924 Turbo, also known by its internal code as "931," is a rather fascinating piece of Porsche's history. During its production run, this model was Porsche's attempt to showcase their engineering prowess by turbocharging the 924 series—an innovative leap back then. While it's often overshadowed by the more famous 944, the 924 Turbo has a special kind of rarity today; fewer enthusiasts have them, making them a diamond in the rough for fans of '80s Porsche engineering.
  • Performance Insight: With a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine, the 924 Turbo pumped out around 170 horsepower, which was quite respectable for its era. It's a manual transmission, which purists will love because it provides that engaging driving experience enthusiasts crave. The turbo lag—well, it was palpable, creating that exhilarating, wait-for-it moment that classic car fans often talk about. It might not hold a candle to the modern Porsches, but it’s all about the nostalgic driving charm.
  • California Roots: This being an original California car speaks volumes about its preservation potential. Cars that hail from regions with milder climates typically avoid the rust issues that plague those from harsher environments, like the Midwest. Though it's currently facing fueling issues (due to a mismatched fuel distributor), its time spent on Vancouver Island and its dry upbringing might mean the body and interior have been well-preserved.
  • Collectible Consideration: The fact this is a two-owner car with less than 100,000 km is a noteworthy find—most classic vehicles have changed hands far more frequently. Moreover, enthusiasts might see the cracked dash and detailing needs as opportunities rather than setbacks. When restored, such a vehicle could transform into a conversation starter at any car meet. It's a piece of history that could very well be worth the effort for someone looking to resurrect and own a slice of 1980s automotive ingenuity.
