Description

1988 TVR S1 targa roadster. I imported it 4 years ago and it is Us titled in my name. Ford 2.8 Cologne factory engine with typical Ford Ranger Bosch fuel injection. Ford type 9 five speed manual overdrive gear box. 4 wheel independent, coilovers suspensions. Very solid tubular steel frame construction. Older non professional repaint, car was originally white. Car runs and drives very well but will need some attention to interior and paint. No trades but will consider a respectful offer. ...

Our Take:
  • TVR S1 Targa Roadster: The 1988 TVR S1 is a rather unique piece of British automotive history. Launched as part of TVR's effort to enter the more affordable sports car market, the S1 was the first of the 'S Series' cars, which boasted sleek, hand-built designs that turned heads—even without being a household name. It's not every day you see one of these, especially Stateside!
  • Powerplant with a Familiar Heart: Under the hood sits the trusty Ford 2.8 Cologne V6 engine, renowned for its reliability and reasonable performance. While it shares this engine with vehicles like the Ford Ranger, the lightweight TVR allows it to shine in a different light, delivering a spirited driving experience that the American pickup doesn't quite capture.
  • Distinctive British Styling: The S1's design is quintessentially TVR, marked by its distinctive targa top—perfect for those days when you want a little sun without fully committing to a convertible experience. Though this particular car has seen a non-professional repaint from its original white, it retains the bold character and presence that TVRs are known for.
  • Driving Purist’s Delight: With its Ford Type 9 five-speed manual and a proper independent suspension setup, this TVR offers a raw and engaging driving experience—a far cry from today's overly assisted rides. The tubular steel frame construction ensures a respectable level of stiffness and safety, hinting at its track-oriented DNA. Sure, the interior and paint could use some TLC, but isn't that just part of the charm of owning a classic?
