Selling my forever fun restomod project 1985 535i. Loss of my job forces me to get rid of it. A lot of stuff I've done to bring this back from extinction, and lots more to be done.
I'm the sixth owner of the car, so what I've figured out is this is technically not an iS, but it is functionally more than an 535iS (which started in 1986). I have receipts that date back to the original owner (from Indiana) and there were performance mods made by the dealer early on, including the front valance and the rear wing you see here. I have confirmed it's running a 1987 535iS LSD (after doing the diff seals and new driveshafts).
Upgrades/updates include, but not limited to: 16" Style 4 wheels from E38 750iL, front calipers/rotors from E38 740iL, rear calipers/rotors from E34 530i, new race fuel pump conversion, removing the secondary pump and updating fuel filter, all new H&R sport springs, Bilstein sport shocks, stainless brake lines, new injectors, plugs, wires, cap/rotor, Interstate battery, and more.
Let's be clear, this is a 40 year old car, so the list of things that can be fixed/updated will continue. Some things that I'm still working on or could be done are: Corrosion in the normal places, but none in the floors or the trunk, speedo does not work (i'm actively working this problem), so mileage is TMU, stereo doesn't work (there seems to be a lot of wire shenanigans going on from previous owners), ICV probably needs to be replaced, I'd like to rebuild the wiper mechanism so it's a little smoother, ABS light came on recently, so that needs to be figured out, etc. Also, should call out there are a couple of small dents above the driver's door in the roof, and there is a scrape on the right rear fender arch that has got to be 20 years old or more. Working on sourcing a replacement bumper cover for that side since the one that's there is torn a little.
At this point, she's a great driving car! The 5-speed shifts well, the rear end is really active, and is surprising how fast it'll get up and go. I've replaced diff and tranny fluids with the appropriate synthetics, oil change was also done not too long ago. And there's much more, but...if you're interested, you'll have to ask and hear the stories about what I've figured out so far. If you ask if it's still available, I'll ignore your message, let's just to honest about that. It's a stupid question if the ad is still up. Comes with a set of Style 5s in excellent condition with new Yokohama tires on them (15").
