Description

The is a Russian OKA Electric car, the body is built by Fiat. 20 of these cars were sent from Russia to Vancouver for testing in early 2000. When the testing was complete they were sold at an auction. I bought 10 of them. This is last one I have. I kept it for years in my collection but have never done anything with it. Now its time for me to start to sell off cars so here it is. The electric motor and batteries were removed from all of the cars but the Spicer front drive and drive shafts are in...

Our Take:
  • Rarity and Obscurity: The 2000 Lada Oka Electric is a true oddball in the automotive world, especially in North America. Only 20 were imported into Vancouver for testing, and this particular vehicle is one of the remnants of that small fleet. It's a rare find, given that such a niche model never saw wide distribution or production beyond these trials, making it a unique collector's item and conversation starter for any enthusiast.
  • International Collaboration: The Oka was a result of an intriguing collaboration between Russia and Fiat for the body design. This vehicle bridges the gap between Russian engineering and Italian design aesthetics, which is not something you see every day. Its connection to Fiat gives it a bit of European flair, which might surprise those unfamiliar with this diminutive model's backstory.
  • Electric Ancestry: Originally an electric vehicle (EV) prototype, it uses a 72-volt system with components that are relatively easy to source today. While this particular unit's electric motor and batteries have been removed, the opportunity to restore it to its intended electric glory is tantalizing. Given the growing interest in EVs, restoring this Lada could serve as an intriguing project for an enthusiast looking to explore early electric vehicle experimentation.
  • Cultural and Historical Significance: The Lada Oka represents a snapshot of a transitional period in automotive history where manufacturers around the globe were toying with alternative energy solutions. Its understated presence in North America is a testament to the varied approaches taken in different parts of the world, making it not only a car but a piece of automotive history worth preserving and showcasing.
