Description

I am selling a 1991 Honda Beat that I imported from Japan in 2022. 656cc, manual, rwd, 9k redline. It was a track vehicle in Japan, I fixed it up when it arrived stateside and have made it street-able. It was an R grade car in Japan. Registered as a clean title here in the states of course. Key modifications: - GReddy Trust piggyback ecu - Feel's hardtop (no soft top) - Recaro Pole Position w/ Crow harness - SSR Type C wheels w/ race suspension - Full exhaust - Upgraded LSD and clutch - 6 poin...

Our Take:
  • Rarity and Collectibility: The 1991 Honda Beat is one of those curious kei cars that most gearheads either pine for or stumble upon with pleasant surprise. It’s rare to spot one stateside due to its Japan-exclusive roots, made possible here by the 25-year import rule. In its heyday, the Beat was one of the last projects famously overseen by Soichiro Honda himself, making it a touchstone for fans of the brand.
  • Engine and Performance: Featuring a 656cc engine that sings to an intoxicating 9,000 RPM, this little roadster was built for spirited driving. With a rear-wheel-drive setup (a rarity for kei cars), the Beat delivers a uniquely engaging experience on twisty roads. It’s almost as if you're driving a pocket-sized piece of JDM heaven—perfectly tuned for fun.
  • Modifications and Upgrades: The modifications on this Beat suggest it was well-loved in Japan's track scene. Equipped with a GReddy Trust piggyback ECU, it’s tailored for performance but might require a little compromise in everyday comfort. The addition of race suspension and SSR Type C wheels points to serious track intentions; however, keep in mind the track-focused tune can make city driving a bit of a dance.
  • Charm and Quirks: The car's repaint from the iconic yellow to white might ruffle purists, but there's an undeniable charm in its imperfections—like a favorite book with a cracked spine. The issues like faded clear coat and cold start quirks are charmingly typical for a car of its vintage but come with an authenticity that’s hard to match. Plus, with its lack of a radio, it seems to encourage you to listen to its raspy exhaust note instead—nature’s soundtrack for the driving purist.
