Our Take:
  • The 2009 Lotus Elise: A gem from the final years of the Elise's production for the U.S. market, this sports car is a featherweight, thanks to its fiberglass body and minimalist ethos. The Elise was critically acclaimed for its nimble handling—it's like driving a go-kart on steroids, with a 1.8L 2ZZ engine sourced from Toyota. This particular model is even more intriguing because it pairs that engine with a classic 6-speed manual transmission, giving enthusiasts the full, tactile Lotus experience.
  • Performance Tires and Extras: Fitted with Toyo R888R tires, this Elise is ready for some serious corner carving. These tires are great for track days—where the Elise truly shines—and show that the previous owner had performance in mind. Moreover, the addition of carbon fiber access panels and side mirrors doesn't just lighten the car (if that's even possible); it gives it that extra dash of motorsport flair.
  • Rebuilt Title Intrigue: The rebuilt title is a bit of a twist, but hold your horses—it seems to stem solely from "clam" damage. Given the absence of frame damage and that airbags weren’t deployed, this is likely the result of an unfortunate but not devastating incident. Lotus used OEM parts to replace the damaged fiberglass shell, which speaks to the integrity of the repair work. For those in the know, this kind of title might mean a reasonably priced entry into the Lotus community.
  • Historical Context: Lotus was known for its 'simplify, then add lightness' philosophy, and the Elise is a testament to that. This 2009 model, marked as potentially the only one currently for sale in the U.S., underscores its rarity. Think about it: you could be driving a piece of modern motoring history—something that whispers of old-school British craftsmanship but screams with modern precision.
