This Fiat has been part of a collection here in North Florida. It was restored and upgraded to 695 SS specs using a ABARTH kit for English RHD Fiat 500 sedans. The ABARTH factory only constructed LHD cars, thus cars built for the English market were assembled from kits by dealers in England.
This RHD FIAT 500 was purchased from the ABARTH dealer Middle Barton Garage, in England, after it was restored and upgraded in 1994 to 695 SS specifications with every racing option available for the 500 series FIAT sedans. The restoration was completed in 1995, re-registered in England, MOT’d in England, tested and shipped to the USA in early 1996.
Shown in the first Concours d’Elegance at Amelia Island, Florida it was awarded a 1st in the racing car class. The owners then transported it to Nassau, Bahamas for the “Nassau Speed Week” commemorative event by racing driver Brian Redman. It was also shown in the Mini/Micro Car Nationals in Madison, Georgia in 2003. The car is registered for street use in Florida and has been used recently for “fun runs” and local car shows.
BODY: ABARTH racing specifications with fender flares, ABARTH badges, roll cage, racing seats and 4 point belts and harness, ABARTH instruments and the signature ABARTH “whale tale” open deck lid for cooling.
RUNNING GEAR: 13” alloy wheels, front disc brakes, rear drums, racing KONI shocks. TRANSMISSION: Racing 5-speed with close ratio gearing.
ENGINE: ABARTH engine kit with a 40 DCOE carburetor, bored and stroked to 76mm x 76mm deep ABARTH sump, special cooling fan, oil cooler and ABARTH exhaust.
